A little bit about Liza: Liza is a lovely dog, extremely affectionate and willing to please. She likes to be as close to you as possible and be involved in everything you do. Her playful side is emerging, she has enjoyed playing with my 4-year-old springer and she is discovering toys. She is gentle and she has integrated herself into my group of 10 dogs beautifully and is already familiar with our food and exercise routines. She has become toilet trained very quickly although of course a few accidents may happen when she goes to her new home. She's a quick learner.

Home Life:

She loves the company of other dogs and settles down with them beautifully. Having said that, because she has come from a situation where she had nothing, she has on occasion demonstrated some resource guarding of me, of a dog bed and of toys. This has taken the form of a warning growl only and never any escalation of behaviour. She should however be managed as a dog with a potential to resource guard to prevent this behaviour from developing and becoming
established.

For the same reasons, she is anxious when left by her human(s). She will cry and bark and display distress at first, but she does settle. She will benefit from a calm canine companion to help overcome this. I have been crate training her here and she is adapting. She is in the crate when I leave the house and at nighttime. At all other times she is with my dogs. She has occasionally attempted to counter surf in the kitchen, but this behaviour is becoming less common. She is toilet trained. She walks beautifully on a harness. I live in a very rural area and always walk a new foster with double leads. She has been very interested in the sheep we have passed, and I feel she would chase them. She has little recall as yet especially when she is busy with her nose. We have walked in remote quiet areas so far so have not encountered other dogs on our walks. I do not anticipate any reactivity. She loves to run and play with my young springer but tires and rests so her exercise should be increased gradually as she becomes fitter.

She has not been child or cat tested. She has met visiting workmen here and was fine with them and even friendly by the end of a week. She has met visiting friends of mine but chose to sit at my feet away from them as we sat and chatted.

Visiting the vet: Liza has had her routine healthcheck and is generally fit and well.  She has previously had surgery for “cherry eye”, and now needs eye gel applied twice a day, but she accepts this easily. As a result of the surgery she has a slightly droopy eye. Her anal glands were very full when she arrived in foster, and she let me empty them and wash her bottom without any reaction.

Behavioural issues:  Lisa will need an experienced owner who is aware of both resource guarding and separation anxiety and has the ability to manage these. If she lives in a home where she is constantly given attention and fuss and praise and physical contact with no "time out" when she is independent from her humans, she has the potential to become a diva who will rule the household.

Home needs: SRS Liza would like a calm, quiet home where she can decompress after what has clearly been a difficult time for her. She has come on in leaps and bounds in foster and will make a wonderful companion. She is fine with other dogs and would benefit from being with another dog for confidence. A secure garden for her to potter in, and regular interesting walks would be ideal. Older children, as she has not been tested with children since being in foster. She would need someone around most of the time.

Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog.
