A little bit about  Charlie - Charlie is a lively, adorable, well-behaved spaniel. He is a very affectionate boy and loves company and being around people. He can be unsure of new situations & new people but usually settles down quickly with some reassurance.

Energy Requirements Charlie really enjoys his walks. He also very much likes playing with toys and chasing a ball. He settles easily, especially if he has had a good walk. He doesn’t mind being left for a short while and settles quickly. He does like to be around people and will follow them around the house.

Training  Charlie has had some training and walks well on the lead using the ‘Gentle Leader’, without it he is inclined to pull, he doesn’t mind it being put on because he knows it means he is going on a walk. He is good at learning and usually enjoys doing what he is asked to do, sometimes it takes him a minute to calm down and listen because he is so keen to do what his foster mum asks. He really just wants to please, but he does have a strong character and can let everyone know what his opinions are. He gets excited when he sees the lead coming out and knows a walk is coming!

He can sit on command and give a paw. He is not too good with ‘lie down’ and his “stay” is a work in progress. Retrieving is his favourite thing to do, and he will bring his toy back every time, but really struggles to put it down so you can throw it again. He knows his name, will listen and come when called. He has not been walking off my lead and his foster mum says he is easily distracted with all those good things to sniff and see on the walks, so he forgets to listen.

Travelling Charlie loves going out in the car and will happily jump into it as soon as you open the door. He is so excited to see where we are going. He can be clipped on to the rear seat seatbelt with a harness, but struggles to sit still so he currently travels happily in the boot in a crate.

Visiting the vet: Charlie was nervous when he went to visit the vet and quite anxious about what the vet wanted to do. He liked it when the vet gave him treats.  He is prone to ear infections but is fine at the moment.  He is up to date with his vaccinations.

Food: Charlie is currently fed a good quality complete food Kibble. Loves treats.

Sleep:  Charlie sleeps quite happily in his own bed.

Behavioural issues Charlie gets on well with other dogs most of the time and is very good on walks with other dogs. Sometimes he is watchful of resources and can guard anything that he considers precious to him. His foster mum has given him guidance and because the other dogs in the house are very calm this has not been a problem. He sometimes like to bark a bit when people to come the house or if he hears noises outside.

Home needs: Charlie is looking for an active home, with someone around most of the time. A rural or semi-rural location would be ideal. Charlie was a little overweight when he arrived but with the right amount of exercise he is easily trimming down to a healthy weight. Charlie would like a garden to play in when he’s not out on walks. Charlie would like to be the only dog in the home however with support and careful introduction he would also live with other dogs. Charlie would be fine with older teenagers who are used to dogs and understand their behaviour. He is a lovely dog and toilet trained. He responds well to commands, especially if a treat is on offer, and would like someone who will spend time doing things with him and developing his training. Charlie was born during the pandemic and as a result he can be very anxious about situations he has not experienced before or things that seem frightening to him. He will need someone who understands his cues and who will reassure and support him to keep learning.

Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog
