A little bit about Bran – he is a nervous boy in some situations, but very friendly and affectionate once introduced. He has a lovely nature and will make someone a great companion. He is possibly a “failed” gundog so needs to become accustomed to a home environment gradually. He reacts a bit to loud noises like fireworks but is not overly stressed.

Energy Requirements:  Bran loves his walks but will need to get used to his new environment and shorter walks before being allowed longer walks. He can become over-stimulated after long walks. He is fixated on birds which affects his recall. He would probably chase squirrels if off-lead.

Training: Bran’s recall needs work but is improving. He is eager to please and quick to learn. He pulls on the lead when excited.

Visiting the vet: Bran is fully vaccinated. He was neutered in August so his hormones will still be settling down. Bran may have some deafness, but loud noises can scare him. This may explain some of his nervousness in strange situations and his falling short as a gundog.

Travelling:  Bran travels well in the car, and is keen to jump in the back, with a dog guard.

Food: Bran is currently fed a complete food Kibble. Loves treats.

Sleep:  Bran is currently living in kennels. He has also been crate trained in his previous home but preferred a mat at the back door with a view of the garden

Behavioural issues: Bran can be “mouthy” when excited or over-stimulated. This doesn’t seem to have been addressed when younger.

Home needs: Bran needs a very special home, someone around most of the time with the patience and time to socialise him and allow him to settle at his own pace. He has a tendency to become over-stimulated so needs a calm environment. He needs a stable, structured environment, to allow Bran time to build confidence. Outdoor space, a large utility room, or a warm secure kennel would be essential to help Bran decompress and allow him to become familiar with a home environment gradually at a pace he can cope with. Someone with experience of gundogs or gundog training would be helpful.

Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog

Bran will not got to his new home until the New Year, he will require at least 2 or 3 visits before going home.
