A little bit about Ziggy - Ziggy has a lovely, affectionate nature. He likes to be where the action is, e.g. 'helping' in the garden. He will likely be better suited to a home where his training can continue. His is a bit of a livewire, his new owners will need lots of energy! He loves to go in water, and chase birds. He gets very excited with visitors and tries to jump up on them, and he gets over excited in new places.
Energy Requirements: Ziggy currently gets three short walks and one longer. He likes playing with balls in the garden. His current routine is a 30-minute walk [for his toilet needs] at 7.30 before his breakfast; weather permitting, a play in the garden then a late morning longer walk,1-1.5hrs; weather permitting playing in the garden 30 minute walk before his dinner; 20 minute toileting walk around 10pm.
Training: He responds well to certain commands, e.g. sit, come, back-back, wait, steady. He also waits before being told 'yes, yes' for his food. He pulls on the lead so this will need some works. His recall is also a work in progress. He's beginning to learn about playing, e.g. dropping the ball so he can have it thrown again.
Visiting the vet: Ziggy has had his routine healthcheck and is fit and healthy. His vaccinations are up to date. Ziggy is cautious and very anxious when approached with an instrument e.g. stethoscope. He did not show any aggression.
Travelling: He travels well in the boot of the car and stays sitting when the lid is being open and closed.
Food: He eats well and has two meals a day, plus some healthy treats. Breakfast and dinner [5pm] 150g each meal Harrington's kibble with a bit of water. He likes raw vegetables; he will eat strawberries (straight from the plant!). He likes some yoghurt or dog-friendly peanut butter in his licky mat. He likes a dried rabbit ear as a treat.
Sleep: Ziggy sleeps in his crate with the door left open.
Behavioural issues: Ziggy displays a bit of guarding, but this is getting better in foster. His safe place is his crate and he can get possessive of things inside. But he can be distracted with swaps. He is motivated by food.
Home needs: Ziggy Will need an active home with someone committed to continuing his training. He needs regular exercise and brain engagement activities. He will thrive in a home where someone is around most of the time. He loves playing ball so a safe enclosed garden would be ideal. He would be best rehomed as the only dog in the home. He can be jealous if other dogs get attention. Older children only as he is quite boisterous. He will probably chase cats and birds.
Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog.
