Personality & Temperament: Lexi is very affectionate, a timid girl but not with her brother. She loves the couch, loves her walks and loves chasing a ball and stealing it from her brother.
Rio is super sweet big boy. He is always on the go. Wants to see what’s going on outside. Does like to bark at neighbours or dogs if out in garden. Doesn’t bark much in the house. He loves the ball and is usually first to get it, although always gives it up for Lexi.
Home Life: Both are toilet trained and can be left alone for short periods. They are not destructive with shoes or soft furnishings. They love to sleep on the couch, they hardly use their own bed. On walks they get very excited; both pull and need training here. Lexi is more biddable and wants to stay close, she will be easier to be off lead. Rio will take a bit of work before being off lead, he loves birds and running and his recall is sporadic. Lexi and Rio absolutely love each other and sleep together. Lexi is more reliant on Rio and looks for him and follows him on walks. They are beautiful dogs together.
Getting Along with Others: Rio loves to bark at the neighbour’s dog when in the garden, but out on walks he doesn’t bark at anyone. He will happily say hello to other dogs if he feels like it.
Lexi is timid with other dogs and does not want to say hello to any. Rio is the only dog she happy with. Rio would definitely chase Cats. Rio is fine with children however Lexi does not like little children and very timid and scared. Children over 12 would be best.
Exercise: They both need training with heel work and being off lead.
At home they have been getting trained to wait until told to go for food and they are doing well. Lexi always finished her food first, so she also has been trained to wait till Rio is finished and then she can have a lick of his bowl. No food guarding at all with either of them or humans. Also being trained to wait before coming indoors. They would suit a very active home who has access to long country walks and invest time to train them. They could be left alone for a short period, a home with retired, semi-retired, working from home, or part time would be best. They could not be left alone in home all day for full time workers.
Health Issues: Both dogs have had their routine heathchecks and are fit and well.
Travel: Lexi is fine in the car, a bit timid and just sits still, but she does relax and close her eyes eventually. Her confidence has grown since she has been in foster. Rio is also fine in the car, he likes to be in the middle watching out the front window. He is strapped in on the back seat, head on the centre console, watching everything.
Home Needs: Lexi and Rio will be rehomed together. They are lovely young dogs who have settled very well in foster. They will need an active home with someone around most of the time. No cats, as Rio would probably chase them. Older children, Lexi is anxious around young children. They would be best as the only dogs in the home.
Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog.
Please do not express interest in Lexi and Rio if you are going on holiday in the next 8 weeks. They will be rehomed together.
