A little bit about Chase: He's happy and friendly, enthusiastic, energetic and playful, curious and busy. His favourite things to do are to carry around his teddy, run around the garden chasing leaves and the wind, and go out for a walk. He's very affectionate and loves getting stroked and cuddled. Once he's settled in the evening he loves to settle down for a cuddle on the sofa or snooze off on the floor after watching a bit of TV.
More about Chase: He's fully house trained. When he first came into foster, he did sprinkle a little bit when he was excited/nervous but that has pretty much stopped. He's fine being left alone for an hour or two. He sleeps in his crate overnight, but for daytime naps he loves curling up on an armchair or a comfy spot in the living room.
He gets on really well with his foster brother (12-year-old laid back springer) and is slightly submissive towards him. He’s keen to say hello to other dogs when he's out for a walk, but can be overexcited. He's never had the opportunity, but I think he would chase smaller dogs if he got the chance.
He chases cats, and our dog-savvy cat is terrified of him. He would also like to chase the foxes that live close to us, and I think he would chase any smaller animal.
He's very friendly and eager to say hello to children, but doesn't have manners and tries to jump up and lick their faces/ears. He could easily knock over and frighten children if they aren't used to him. Once he calms down, he is gentle and friendly.
He is incredibly strong and has a huge amount of pent-up energy. He pulls on the lead and will need strong owners who can continue to work on his training. He can walk to heel and is slowly improving on the lead but is distracted very easily. We have tried various head collars and harnesses but is best with his normal collar and a padded training lead.
He does not have reliable recall but is improving.
In the house he likes a wee treat, but he is not particularly food orientated and is not interested in treats when he's outside. He responds very well to praise.
He loves company and is very happy just being around his family, with regular reassurance and attention. He would enjoy agility or similar activities. He's very intelligent, eager to please and quick to learn if you can channel his attention and energy.
Visiting the vet: Chase has had his vaccinations brought up to date and has been neutered while in foster. He is well behaved at the vet surgery and enjoyed all the attention.
Behavioural issues: No major issues. He is a strong boy, with a high prey drive.
Home needs: He would suit an active home where he can go for long walks and have enough stimulation, and a home with someone around most of the time. He has lived with very young children but is boisterous so older children only. He could live with another similar dog (active, age and size) but definitely no cats. A large garden for training would be a bonus.
He needs a home where his new family has plenty of time and energy to meet his activity needs.
He's already a lovely dog and will make a fantastic companion with continued training and the right home for his energy needs.
Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog.
