A little bit about Buzz: Buzz enjoys cuddles and attention. He has the freedom of the house and enjoys sitting up on the couch or in his bed. He will go up onto the bed but goes back to his own bed after a while. He is not destructive and can be left in the house once he has had his walk. He enjoys company. He has been left for a maximum of 2 hours on one occasion. He is playful and enjoys playing with his toys and his doggy puzzle. He likes to be part of what’s going on in the house. He does not like the hoover and hides in another room.
He is happy to meet people outside, but he can be a bit nervous of new visitors, especially when they try to interact with him immediately, but relaxes and is fine if he is given the option to approach visitors in his own time. If he does get over excited with new visitors he can bark so putting him in another room to calm down for a few minutes can diffuse this.
Energy Requirements: Currently he gets 2 x hour long walks per day – morning and afternoon. He gets up at 8am, out into garden, has breakfast, then walk an hour later. Afternoon walk is around3pm. Dinner at 4.30 /5.00. He especially loves beach and countryside walks.
Training: He is learning to wait and go at roads. He will chase a ball for a little while and understands “drop”. His recall is good on his own, but easily gets distracted when other dogs are around. If he gets over excited on his favourite walks, he pulls on the lead so I will stop walking and wait until he calms down and stops pulling or I pull up slightly on his harness and lead. He is not afraid of traffic or outside noise and can relax and behave in a dog friendly cafe . Currently walking well with other dogs he knows. Continued work on over excitement when having new visitors in the home will be needed in addition to recall when other dogs are around.
Visiting the vet: Buzz has had surgery for “cherry eye”, this was successful, and he is recovering well. He is up to date with his vaccinations. Buzz will be adopted with a contract to be neutered once he is settled.
He does not mind trips to the vet or being examined.
Travelling: He is very calm in the car. He is clipped on in the back seat and settles instantly.
Food: Currently being fed Purina Beta small breed adult however I do tend to make my own dog food ( Chicken/ Sardines/ Mince and chopped up veg) regularly. He loves treats so these must be limited. He does not snap at treats.
Sleep: He sleeps on the couch or his bed during the day. Sleeps on the bed for a short time at night, then his own bed. He sleeps all night. Out into the garden about 11 before I go to bed. If he needs out, he will go to garden door.
Behavioural issues: There has been no aggression or guarding of food or toys observed. No separation anxiety. He can be reactive with unneutered males but has greatly improved in this area.
Home needs: Buzz will need an active home, with someone around most of the time who can continue his training and offer him interesting walking opportunities. He will need an experienced owner, who can manage his reactivity to intact male dogs. He would like a secure garden for play and training between walks. He would be best as the only dog in the home. Older children would be fine.
Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog.
