A little bit about Theo – Theo is a very friendly, and occasionally boisterous, youngster. He has a lovely nature. He is a big lad and is very strong. He will sometimes have puppy sprinkles when meeting new people or when he is excited. This is getting better.
Energy Requirements: Theo has lots of energy and will need daily exercise commensurate with his age. He has met some other dogs recently and was fine with them, although he will sometimes bark at them.
Training: He is keen to please, and very responsive to commands so training is fun. He will pull on the lead, given the chance, so is using a figure of 8. His recall in an enclosed area is good. He is food motivated, so this helps with training.
Travelling: Fine in the car, occasionally whimpers, but happy and excited. Will need to be secured if ni the boot or back seat.
Visiting the vet: Theo has had his routine healthcheck and is fit and healthy. He is in good condition and has been well cared for.
Food: Theo currently is being fed a good quality kibble. He needs a slow feeder to slow his eating otherwise he wolfs it down.
Sleep: Theo is getting used to his crate and will sleep in it with the door closed.
Behavioural issues: Theo was very “mouthy” when he came into foster, but his fosterer has been working on this, and with a consistent approach he is getting much better. He will counter surf given the chance. No resource guarding, no separation anxiety. He will steal socks and has been known to swallow them!
Home needs: Theo needs an active home, with plenty of opportunities for daily, interesting and varied walks. He also enjoys pottering in the garden but it must be secure. He is currently living with two female Springers and would be fine with another friendly dog once introduced. Older children used to dogs would be fine. Untested with cats but likely to chase. He will need experienced owners who will commit to continuing his training.
Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog
