Hi, I’m Tavish! I’m a very cute golden show cocker, with great big eyes and even bigger eyebrows., I am super friendly, and I love meeting other dogs when I am out on my walks. I am enjoying meeting lots of new people and always greet them with a waggy tail. My Foster family say I am typical of my breed. I can sometimes want my own way, but I am gradually becoming quicker to respond. When I get excited I bark a bit although I am learning to stop more quickly now. I love lying on the sofa, getting a cuddle and I can give both paws and lie down to get a treat!
Energy Requirements: I love my walks, especially sniffing at every blade of grass. I don’t pull on a lead at all, and I can walk beautifully to heel. I am happy to be left on my own, although my foster mum thinks I may have the odd bark if I hear a noise I don’t recognise.
Training: I am house trained and will let you know when I need to go outside. I am also crate trained and like to go into it for a sleep or if I need a wee time out if I have been rebellious.
Visiting the vet: I have had my health check which went well, although I am a wee bit overweight and need to lose a few pounds. I find it difficult to get up on the sofa, so the vet wondered if I have a sore back, so I am trying some pain relief for a few days. I’m up to date with my vaccinations, worming tablets etc.
Travelling: I love the car, and travel in one of my baskets either in the boot or on the back seat, securely fastened.
Food: I have a good appetite and eat twice a day. I have been very treat orientated but my foster mum has started to reduce the number of treats I get and I certainly don’t get any to stop my barking. I can give 2 paws and lie down on command to get a treat. I don’t like carrots or peppers.
Sleep: I sleep well, I like to sleep on the sofa, bed or in my crate. At night I sleep in my basket, and I snore all night! I’m told it’s very soporific. I am sleeping in the bedroom now, but I used to sleep downstairs.
Behavioural issues: I do love to bark at birds when I am outside, and inside at any noise I am not sure about. My foster mum has been working hard on this and she says my barking is reducing every day. I can sometimes get a wee bit anxious or scared and then I might growl. Again, my foster mum is providing me with lots of reassurance, so I am starting to do this less. I am not sure of the unpredictability of young children, so I would like a child-free home.
Home needs: I need a home that has experience with show cockers like me. No cats as I would probably chase and bark at them. I am currently living with a Springer whom I have occasionally growled at, but only when we have been inside, so my foster mum thinks I may be better on my own so I don’t have to compete for attention.
Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog.
