A little bit about Zeus: Zeus is a really friendly boy who has come on leaps and bounds in foster. He has thrived on having clear routines such as set mealtimes and a space that is just his where he can rest if he wants some quiet time on his own. He has responded really well to consistent boundaries for example sitting or standing calmly when putting his harness and lead on. He is happy to have his harness put on as he knows he is going for a nice adventure. Zeus loves getting out and about! He will ask to go into the garden, sometimes just to nose around and he enjoys long walks in the countryside where he can take in all the smells, sights and sounds of the woods, rivers, lochs and mountains nearby. He will happily paddle in a river, the sea (or a muddy puddle) and is finding out that when you are a spaniel, these things are great fun and that he wants to do more of them! After a good walk, Zeus is happy to join you for a trip to a pub or cafe where he likes to meet other people there and get lots of fuss. He is a very calm and good-natured boy who will sit or lie down patiently while you have your coffee and cake or a meal. Zeus has got on very well with my two resident spaniels and has also met various friends and family (human and dogs) with no issues. When he is out and about, he would rather that off-lead dogs do not come up in his face. If they do, he will bark to show they are not welcome. Asking him to sit near you and rewarding this with a treat is working well should you see a dog off-lead that he does not know. Zeus responds well to his name and recall on a long line is good although occasionally he just needs to have one last sniff first!

More about Zeus: He loves to play tuggy, the bigger tug rope the better! He has also had a go at canicross covering 2-3km distances whilst he has been in foster. He is building up his muscle tone and stamina as well as losing a bit of weight. When he first came in to foster, he was quite anxious and took a while to start eating properly. Now he has a good routine and is eating Barking Heads kibble with a small amount of meat food as a topper. Zeus eats his meal in a room on his own which is also where his crate is. He does not mind if you are in the room whilst he is eating but would prefer that you leave him to finish his meal before approaching him. He sleeps soundly in his crate at night (the door to the room is shut but not the crate itself). One of his quirks is that he loves rolling - not in anything unpleasant but on things that provide different sensations. So far this has included damp grass, a pile of fallen leaves, sand on the beach and his number one favourite is gravel-rolling (if you have gravel on your driveway, he will be a very happy boy)!

Visiting the vet: Zeus has been to the vet for his health check and again for a vaccination booster. Both times he sat quietly with me in the waiting room. In the clinic, he was a little unsure at first and wanted to be close to me but was happy for the vet to examine him, to go on the scales and receive his injection.

Behavioural issues: Zeus can find it hard when his favourite people leave the house. For around 5-10 minutes, he will look out of the window and bark/whine but is getting better as time goes on. He would like a family where there is someone around a lot of the time and who can help him learn that he is safe and secure even when you are not there.

Home needs: A (secure)garden! He loves to go outside, often just to enjoy some fresh air and stretch his legs. Zeus is a gorgeous boy with a lot of love to give and would like to have someone who he can really connect with. He will happily join you as you go about your day and then when he is tired, he will find himself somewhere comfy for a rest. He would like his new family to know that when he is resting, he likes his own space and for this to be respected. He would prefer a home where any children are older and are able to understand and respect his need for quiet time and space as well as the times when he wants to play and be part of what is going on. Zeus would be happy to live with another dog but not cats as he shows a strong urge to chase them. He has seen a few different types of livestock whilst in foster and has been inquisitive about them for example when a cow mooed but has not made any attempts to get to them. He is a very gentle and kind soul who is calm, good-natured and he gives the best spaniel-wiggles to welcome you home!
