Happy Endings

Springer Rescue for Scotland rehomes well over 100 dogs a year. We love to get feedback about the how dogs are settling in with their new families and we welcome emails and photos from owners telling us about their experiences, outings and adventures with their new Springers.

We have received many heart-warming and touching stories telling what a difference a rehomed dog makes to a family. Here are just some of the letters we have received from Springer Spaniels and their new owners, who have found each other through Springer Rescue for Scotland.

If you have rehomed an SRS dog, and would like to update your progress together on the website, then please get in touch at . And remember, we love photos!

Hi folks,

Just a few words to let you know how Wallace is doing. When we first got him he had issues with guarding his bed and female owner, well with help from Springer Rescue Scotland Wallace is coming on in leaps and bounds. The guarding of his bed is very little to what it used to be and he has become very close to Martin after a rocky start… It has helped that I have been out of action with a broken leg and Martin has been doing all the walks. This has bonded them really well; we still get a bit of growling from Wallace but only late at night when he is tired. Anyone who meets him says what a lovely dog he is in nature and looks, and neighbours and our dog walker have said they see a change in him for the better. We really feel lucky to have Wallace and feel that we are a family.

Hi,

Tetley has settled in well; no problems with our own little Amy. He is loving the crofting life. We have had no real problems other than he is a little possessive of a tennis ball. We are working on this by using three or four balls and bits of chicken to confuse and distract.

His lead work is coming on really well and he only pulls hard now when he sees or sniffs something good. Chicken and sheep will take a little longer but he is very clever and will, I am sure, learn they are not toys. He is also good in the car and jumps in and out with ease and stops crying after a couple of miles, again no problem.

He is now content to lie at the front door half in and half out – the outdoors is losing its attraction other than when the lead comes out, due I think to outside being readily available . On the more serious note he was castrated last week and has a “lamp shade” on his head but it has not dampened his spirit, although the shade has knocked lumps out of; walls, shins and anything else that gets in the way. The vet was happy with his shape and condition.

In short he’s great.

Hi,

We have had Henry for about 8 months now...and he is just fabulous, he fits right in with our family.

We had one springer and decided we needed another one...!!! I saw him on your website and wanted him right away.

Lennie was fabulous and we were able to introduce Henry to our Springer. And it worked out just great...They are best pals now.

We do lot of camping and Henry is a great traveller, and loves long walks, he doesn't leave my side, we live on a large estate, and he loves to go out and sit out in the back garden and listen to the birds, and never leaves... I was a little concerned at first...but nope, he wants to know where I am at all times...so that's a big help. He is pure joy!!!!

It's four months now since Glen came to stay with us and he has settled in very well.

After a week or so of early mornings he started sleeping later and is happy to wait until 8am now for his first walk of the day.

We decided to enrol him in obedience classes to improve his recall - these worked quite well although he was very anxious about some of the other dogs and found it difficult to concentrate there. He now has good recall - we can confidently let him off the lead in safe environments. He sleeps downstairs on his own and is happy to lie at our feet in the living room. These are all major steps forward for Glen who was very anxious and uncertain of any ground rules when he came to us.

He has enjoyed holidays in Alyth in the spring - loved going to the beach at Lunan Bay but was a bit over stimulated by all of the people on the beach at St Andrews. He still loves his toys and is especially fond of ball games. He also loves chasing squirrels and rabbits and trying to get the letters out of the box before we can get to them! He has loads of personality and is such a lot of fun - thanks Springer Rescue. We weren't sure about Glen at first but now he's well and truly part of the family!

Regards,
Gordon

Hi there,

Well, it's just over a year with Buddy now and all is going well. He is very good with my 2 year old boy Kyle and gets on really well with my cat as well.

He has made our family very happy and we could never wish for a better dog. We have had no problems with him at all.

We took him to a dog show and I entered him in two classes. The first was the dog with the waggiest tail and he came first in this one. The other one was best retrieve and he also came first in this. I have attached some photos of Buddy.

Many thanks,
Jason Tricker

As promised we though we would write to tell you and the society how Jute is getting along. We have gathered various photos from all our adventures and we hope that you find one here you would like for your website for the 'happy ending ' section.

We are so thrilled to have Jute and can honestly say that the wee dog has slotted right into our lives so quickly and smoothly that we cant remember what life was like before.

Right from the start Jute was very enthusiastic on the walks we took him on and quickly shed his extra pounds within a few weeks.

Jute now bounds confidently over hill and glen, flings himself into any water he comes across and crashes determindly through woodland scrub, stuffing his nose into every hollow he comes across.

He snores contentedly in the front of our tent and gained a new sun and sea bleached shaggy coat after our two week holiday along the west coast islands. At home Jute potters around, he loves to be close when we telly watch, weaving his way between our feet and at other times chooses to snooze away in his basket.

Jute greets us exictedly every day whether we've been out for a couple of minutes or a couple of hours, with what we have termed the "waggle dance", this is accompanied by his non stop tail wagging action!!

He's brought so much joy to our life already in the short space of time he's been with us - looking forward to many more years of his company!!

Thank you for letting him come to us,

best wishes

Jo and Douglas
